The Hurry Burry Crew

Mindy - Boss of All She Surveys
The brains of the operation, Mindy manages the farm, oversees the sales, plans the marketing, does all the research, most of the deliveries and also homeschools 3 kids. In her "free time" she knits and spins. She's a graduate of the University of Maryland and spent many professional years in Marketing and Public Relations. She is fond of uttering the terrifying phrase "I've been thinking..."

Jim- Tinker, Dreamer and Head Stableboy
Jim provides most of the muscle around the farm. He has a BA in History, and MA in American history and did PhD work in Native American history prior to becoming an IT Professional. In between that time, he wrote obituaries for a newspaper, worked construction, worked for a racehorse sale company, worked as a betting clerk at a racetrack, a teller at a bank, researched and wrote horse pedigrees and delivered commercial paper products. Now he splits his time between the high-tech world of computers and the low-tech world of Hurry Burry Farm.

The Kids
Conner is a huge help around the farm. Aside from the daily chores of feeding the dogs and collecting eggs, he takes on "special" projects for a price, such as cleaning out the chicken coop, shoveling snow, cleaning the barn and catching runaway chickens. Conner is an avid reader and lego creator.

Kate is the artist. She has her own webpage with some of her photos and drawings, Kates's View. She is terriffic at raising all the baby animals from chicks to sheep to goats.

Maggie is the youngest. When she's not telling her siblings what to do or jumping on the trampoline, she is trying hard to do eveything that they are doing. Maggie's Musings

The Dogs
No farm is complete without a good working dogs. Working alone, as a team or with a human, they may well be the most important tool we have at Hurry Burry.

Lucy is a 2 year-old English Shepherd. She has taken over as lead farm dog. ES's are known as highly intellegent dogs who are instinctive livestock guardians, herders and hunters. Lucy excels at protecting the farm and all its occupants, especially at night. She is a dog capable of remarkable independent thinking which makes her invaluable as a working farm dog, tho occasionally she believes she knows better than her handlers. I'm not saying she's usually right, but I have found it is usually worth considering her point of view. We are working on training her to herd sheep.

At 13, Abby is enjoying a well deserved retirement. A Belgian Shepherd that we found in Kentucky at a humane society, she grew to be a great dog in every way. Even tho she spends most of her time snoozing on the deck, she remains the Alpha dog as far as the other 2 are concerned.

Havoc is still a puppy (Husky/Shepher mix) and has much learning ahead of him. However, he has shown great instincts and desire for herding and as he gets a bit older we will see how he responds to some training. For now, he uses his size, speed and howl to provide an intimidating backup for Lucy when she calls him.
